Visiting Van Loon's Nursery

from w
Once again our Uniting Church Fellowship had a visit to Van Loon's for lunch and a wander around their wonderful nursery in Wallington, about fifteen minutes drive from Geelong. We went by a small bus - thank you JB - and there was plenty of chatter. Fortunately the day was fine after all the unsettled weather. When we reached there a lady came up to me and said she would be joining our lot soon, then she related that she is moving into a nursing home next week! Hey, not yet, not yet!

I did only one drawing but took plenty of photos so some of them are posted here - not many of plants, mainly pots and objects for sale to enhance gardens, too expensive for me, though I would love to have a Japanese type garden (and house) instead of the clutter and mayhem that seems to be the way these days.

Colouring inside the lines

from w
Without a computer and the easy way of exploring colour and texture using computer graphic programs, I just had to use real coloured pens and paper for a few days. So I found some unfinished pages, fiddled with one already half-done and started one new one. One I just got tired and didn't complete! Anyway here they are - photographed because they were near to A3 in size and the scanner is A4. Fyansford and Barwon Edge grounds and Van Loon's Nursery still figure.

Bonsais are strange

from w
Here are more pictures from our visit yesterday to Van Loon's nursery in Wallington. I did two quick pencil sketches on site then used a pen to add more detail. And here are a few more of the photos. It was a lovely day with my friends from East Geelong Uniting Church Fellowship. The idea of bonsai is very strange and I feel sorry that the gardener chops them to be stunted.

A beautiful garden but with price tags

from w
After sorting books at Donation in Kind and trying to be kind to my back, I went on a luncheon date with a group of East Geelong church women to Van Loon's Nursery in Grubb Road, Wallington. What a beautiful place to stroll about but the price tags got in the way of some good photos. We had lunch first - healthy and very nice, then as it was a sunny day we spent almost an hour wandering about. I just love the shapes and textures of the different plants and trees and they were set out with stone carvings, pebbles, etc. and jazz music was playing in the background. Here are some of my photos, some adapted of course.
