No water birds at Balyang Sanctuary
from w
Because the lake is dry the water birds have disappeared - usually there are black swans, pelicans, cormorants, teals, herons, plovers, moorhens, black ducks. They feed on water plants, hyabbies, tadpoles, frogs etc. It is a depressing sight at present. I tried to draw the cracked bed of the lake but found it difficult to do.
We went back to Balyang early this morning before the day heated up, as Peceli wanted to draw certain trees. Maybe he'll post some of his pictures later on.

That is really sad. I wonder if someone could make a giant fan and blow all our unusually wet weather your way!
Not only floods and cyclones bringing too much water elsewhere, but somewhere in Western Australia all the records were broken this week with a huge rainfall!
Something is weirdly wrong.

No Wendy it is just nature being unpredictable. Just a bit more so than normal. I remember floating down the creek on a raft after a summer rain. we like the ones of the WA coast as they usually bring us rain and fill the rainwater tanks and sometimes we have floods, but not for about fifty years and people forget.Even the scientists are divided.Love this image of yours. I had heard that it was raining in Australia and I had hoped that you were getting some of that. We met some Greeks living in Australia not long ago - one was more Australian than Greek it seemed, and he talked about all the rain you guys were getting. Sad that the fowl have had to leave because of the draught.
Panny and Tooners,
Well, it's rained a little bit lately but the reservoirs for Geelong are still only about 25% full and our water restrictions drive me crazy. We had ten visitors and they all showered at least twice and all that water went down the drain! I really couldn't ask them to bucket out the soapy water and put on the plants!
