Nostalgia and my Mallee family

I found a photograph of my Mum. Also a painting I did of my Mum's father when I was a kid. It's out of proportion I now realize. He was sitting by the fire with our pet dog Tip in my parent's home. I was about fifteen when I painted it - a long time ago!

I like the way the head and hands draw and reward the eye's attention

At that age I just painted without thinking of composition. Just my way of showing my affection for a quiet old gentleman - a retired wheat farmer - who gave me the time of day. My grandparents lived over a mile away and he would walk over every Thursday to give me the Age for the Junior Age page so I could enter competitions with drawings and quaint poems. We got the Sun newspaper which was not so interesting.
