Pairs of shoes near the door

from w
From a photo I took yesterday, just to prove how some households have expectations that shoes are removed before entering a house (shoes either on verandah or near the doorway), I made some variations of the single photo. One of the girls told me that this is not only a South Pacific custom, but it is also a Muslim custom, of not polluting a household with shoes that are perhaps muddy or dusty.
