Visit to Curlewis winery

from w
An artist in residence for four weeks came over from West Australia to explore the landscapes in our Bellarine Peninsular. His oil paintings and charcoal sketches so far are about our strong but erratically shaped pine trees. Peceli and I went out there today for the Open Day at the Curlewis winery in Curlewis, and then drove down McDermotts Rd past Coriyule to see what was at the end of the road - a cliff and narrow beach.

The artist is  Merrick Belyea who says: “The Curlewis Artist Residency will greatly extend my capacity to engage with a number of ongoing themes,” Merrick explains. “In particular, a contemporary view of landscape painting that seeks to capture the essence of place figuratively and politically. The time spent in the Bellarine Peninsula will be an exciting foray into a new and unfamiliar landscape.”

Curlewis Winery celebrated the artist residency with a special Open Day to release their 2012 Reserve Pinot Noir. today from 12noon to 4pm,guests to meet the artist and experience Curlewis hospitality with the Cellar Door open for tastings and sales.
