Dinner party in Newcomb

from w
Last night we had a lovely dinner at the home of friends Joy and Andy, and other guests were David and Ema, and a golf friend Ron turned up, invited by Peceli. Joy is a treasure and is off to Fiji soon. Here are some pics. Peceli thinks he can sing and launched out with 'Vorovoro, Malua, kei Vuo' but the better guitar player and singer is Andy.

Hello Karla,
Yesterday it was a day at home and having to think about what to cook for the evening meal - that is, cook dinner for a change, and then our neighbour called with two large snapper fish he had caught at Queenscliff. Lovely! Peceli was the cook then.

Today was busy - two church services for Peceli, the first in English at a modern church, data projector and all, and the second in a heritage listed darkened old church with a Fijian service over two hours long - that someone else led and Peceli only had to do some prayers and the sermon. Then kava and a delicious Fijian lunch followed - for about seventy people. Mainly the guys drink kava. By the way kava is a brownish drink make out of the root of a kind of pepper plant. It's not alcoholic but is a kind of drug I suppose - good for aches and pains. It looks like muddy water and tastes so with a bit of a numbing effect on the mouth! It's a traditional Fijian drink when people sit on the mat and talk.
